A Sharp Indictment of Superstition: The Black Horse’s Shoe Stuns Dhanbad Audience
Dhanbad, Jharkhand | December 30, 2025
On the occasion of its Foundation Day, Runart Foundation, Patna presented a powerful stage production of the play The Black Horse’s Shoe at Sarak Place, Mahuda, Dhanbad, on Tuesday evening. Written by noted playwright K. M. Mishra and directed with precision by Randhir Kumar, the play emerged as a scathing critique of blind faith, deception, and society’s dangerous obsession with shortcuts.
Rooted in sharp social satire and intense human drama, the play narrates the journey of an innocent and vulnerable young man who, overwhelmed by personal hardships, falls prey to a conman masquerading as a saviour. Seduced by the promise of instant solutions symbolised by the so-called “black horse’s shoe,” he abandons reason and hard work, believing superstition to be his escape route. What follows is a tragic spiral of moral collapse, loss of dignity, and eventual imprisonment—until the illusion finally shatters.
The production forcefully exposes how unscrupulous elements in society exploit desperation by selling myths disguised as miracles—promising wealth, healing, employment, and love through talismans and shortcuts. The play underlines how such beliefs not only drain people financially but also erode their critical thinking, self-respect, and emotional stability.

Through layered storytelling and compelling performances, The Black Horse’s Shoe warns that blind faith blurs the line between right and wrong, pushing individuals toward psychological fragility and social ruin. The narrative culminates in a stark realisation: there are no magical remedies for life’s struggles—only awareness, effort, and rational thought can offer lasting solutions.
The cast, featuring Ankita Verma, Rani Kumari, Nandan Raj, Shiv Singh, Jayant Kumar, Ajay Kumar, Raju Ram, Ayush Raj Sinha, Ranveer Kumar, Sunny Sahitya, Ashish Ranjan, Roshan Kumar, Chandu Kumari, Fekni Devi, Karmu Paswan, Rakesh Kumar, and Siddharth Kumar, delivered a gripping performance that held the audience spellbound.
The play received an overwhelming response, leaving the audience introspective and reaffirming theatre’s role as a potent instrument of social awakening and resistance against irrational beliefs.
